Tennis is taught as a lifestyle skill…The reason for this is simply because tennis consists of so many disciplines that one can apply in everyday life. Many pleasurable hours can be spent on the tennis courts with family and friends alike. Once the basic skills are mastered, it can become competitive, as long as it is played in the true spirit of the game.
Some of these disciplines involve concentration, emotional control and a positive attitude. It is very easy to become negative when one is struggling with the basics of this dynamic game. That’s why we recommend a few coaching lessons in order to become acquainted with the necessary skills to enable you to play a decent game. Don’t think for one moment there are any short cuts to becoming a good player. It takes a lot of hard work, commitment and dedication, even if you want to participate in the social version of the game.
This does not mean that it should become too much effort to pick up your racquet and head to the courts. It should still be a pleasure to go and knock a few balls with family and friends. If you are not able to attend any lessons for whatever reason, you can find many tennis books and magazines in your local bookshop as well as good articles on the net. Keep in mind that tennis coaching is a very sophisticated job and that it takes many years to teach someone all the skills.
That’s why we recommend anyone wanting to start playing, to develop an all round game. This will enable you to play pretty much any type of game style, whether it is as a baseliner that comes to the net whenever possible, or even a net rusher who will serve and volley twenty-four-seven! If these terms sound like French to you, don’t be disturbed, your coach will be happy to explain the different aspects of this wonderful game.
We sincerely hope that this serves as motivation to start playing this wonderful sport (if you haven’t already)! Don’t be scared to find your feet on the court. As time goes by you will become better and will then obviously start enjoying it more. Soon you will be adapting your lifestyle and as a result of that allocate more quality time for those close to you.
